PM Tarique Rahman joins roadside rally in Cumilla en route to Chandpur

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday joined a roadside rally at Lakshmipur Bazar ground in Barura upazila of Cumilla while travelling to Chandpur on his first official visit to the district as head of government.
The Prime Minister reached the rally venue at around 1:20pm. Leaders and activists greeted him with thunderous applause and cheers as he stepped onto the stage.
Tarique Rahman waved to the crowd in response to the warm reception.
His Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said the Prime Minister was travelling to Chandpur and had stopped to take part in the roadside rally, where he was expected to deliver a brief address.
Party leaders, activists and supporters began gathering at Lakshmipur Bazar ground from around 9:00am, arriving in small processions carrying banners and festoons.
By 10:30am, the roadside programme had turned into a massive gathering as thousands of leaders and activists assembled at the venue.
Earlier in the morning, the Prime Minister left his Gulshan residence in Dhaka for Chandpur by road at around 8:45am.
During his visit, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate the re-excavation work of two canals, address a public rally at Chandpur Government College ground, distribute Family Cards and attend an organisational meeting with local BNP leaders and activists.
The visit marks Tarique Rahman’s first trip to Chandpur as Prime Minister and his first visit to the district in 22 years. He last travelled to Chandpur in 2004 while serving as Senior Joint Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
