An Australian parliamentary delegation led by Speaker of the House of Representatives Milton Dick visited Bangladesh last week to strengthen bilateral parliamentary ties and support democratic governance following the country’s February 2026 national elections.
During the visit, the delegation met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed.
The delegation also held discussions with Members of Parliament, representatives of civil society, and United Nations partners.
As part of their programme, they toured the Parliament House and visited the July Revolution Memorial Museum.
The delegation discussed ways to promote inclusive and accountable democratic institutions, youth participation, women’s political leadership, media freedom and human rights.
