Govt targets transforming Bangladesh into top tourist destination

Key agencies under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism want to transform Bangladesh into a premier regional aviation hub and an attractive international tourist destination by strengthening and coordinating their activities.
The overall activities and roadmaps of these bodies were detailed during the maiden meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the ministry of the 13th National Parliament, held at the Jatiya Sangshad Bhaban on Thursday.
The committee chairman Abul Kalam Azad Siddiqui presided over the meeting, while Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat, MPs Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Lutfullah Mazed, Syed Jahangir Alam, Alhaj Jasim Uddin Ahmed, Mosammat Suraiya Zerin, Shawkat Ara Akter, Md Kamrul Hasan and Md Abu Talib attended it.
Secretary of the ministry, senior officials of agencies under the ministry and officials concerned of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were also present at the meeting.
At the meeting, the overall activities of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Bangladesh Tourism Board and Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation were presented in detail.
The committee stressed the need for coordinated efforts among the institutions to develop a modern, safe and internationally standard aviation and tourism sector.
The committee also recommended that the ministry provide detailed reports on the implementation status of its ongoing programmes as well as the vacant posts under the ministry and its agencies. It further recommended taking necessary measures on a priority basis to fill the vacant posts.
The committee chairman advised the ministry and its agencies to ensure transparency and accountability and to remain free from corruption while implementing the policy of “Bangladesh First” announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He also called for a coordinated approach to implementing development programmes in the aviation and tourism sectors.
The committee called for institutions under the ministry to work with honesty and dedication while following the principle of “We will work, we will build the country” to establish a modern, safe and internationally competitive aviation and tourism sector.
