Female doctor killed in Sylhet truck accident

A young female doctor tragically lost her life after being crushed under a reckless truck in Sylhet on Sunday.
The victim, Rahima Khatun Jessy, 27, was an intern at Sylhet Women’s Medical College Hospital and also served as a duty doctor at SSKS Clinic. She was the daughter of Abu Noser of Lalabazar area in Dakshin Surma upazila.
The accident occurred around 11:15 am at Jitu Mia Point in the city, when a speeding truck coming from Dakshin Surma area rammed into the rickshaw carrying Jessy, severely injuring both her and the rickshaw puller, Zakirul Islam.
Inspector (Investigation) Md Habibur Rahman of Sylhet Kotwali Model Police Station confirmed it and said both victims were rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Despite doctors’ efforts, Jessy succumbed to her injuries around 3:00 pm
Zakirul remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
“The truck has been seized, but the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Legal procedures are ongoing to identify and apprehend the driver,” the officer added.
The tragic death of the young doctor has sparked sorrow in the local medical community, with many expressing anger over continued road safety negligence in the region.
