Bangladesh Bank has set new office and transaction hours for all scheduled banks, effective from Sunday, as part of nationwide efforts to conserve fuel and electricity.
According to a circular issued on Saturday, bank offices will remain open from 10:00am to 5:00pm, while customer transactions will be conducted from 10:00am to 3:00pm from Sunday through Thursday until further notice.
However, branches, sub-branches, and booths located in seaport, land port, and airport areas, including port and customs zones, will continue to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in line with existing directives.
The central bank said the revised schedule has been introduced in response to the government’s recent austerity measures aimed at reducing energy consumption amid mounting pressure on the energy sector.
On 2 April, the government announced a series of steps, including shortened office hours and early closure of shopping malls and markets, following disruptions in global energy supply linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
The directive has been issued under the authority of Section 45 of the Bank Companies Act, 1991, and will remain in effect until further notice.
