The pass rate of SSC examination of Sylhet is lowest in the country this year.

Arun Chandra Pal, Controller of Examinations, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Sylhet, on Monday said that books, notebooks and notes of many students was washed away in the flood that hit this year which affected the preparation of a lot of students.
“Even though books were given after the flood, many could not be given note books. That is why the pass rate has decreased. At the same time, exams were also delayed due to floods,” he added.
He said that last year there was no exam in Maths and English. Only three subjects were tested. However, exams on Maths and English took place this time which also had an impact on the results.
The controller of examination added that the pass rate in English was 92.33% while 89.88% in mathematics.
Arun Chandra Pal said that due to more students being in the humanities department, the pass rate has decreased. Other boards of the country have more students in the science department.
In Sylhet, there are 23,318 students in the science department and 84,273 students in the humanities department. The humanities department is also far behind in the pass rate. The pass rate in science is 93.57%, while the pass rate in humanities is 73.80%.
Despite the drop in the performance of the examinees, he showed satisfaction considering the flood situation in mind.
When asked how the GPA-5 increased even though the pass rate decreased in the flood, Arun said that the marginalized students of the village were more affected by the flood. Besides, the city students got more GPA-5 where the flood damage had been relatively less.
