Actress Pori Mon has been dropped from the ‘Fashion Vanguard Award 2026’ in Chattogram following protests by local journalists over her alleged misconduct towards a journalist.
The organisers confirmed the decision to the media on Saturday, November 7.
According to the organisers, an agreement had been signed with the actress to attend the event 17 days before the incident involving a journalist at the Dhaka court premises. However, following allegations of disrespectful behaviour towards a media worker and protests by journalists in Chattogram, they decided to remove her from the programme.
The organisers also expressed support for the journalists’ demands.
On Friday night, Pori Mon shared a poster of the ‘Chattogram Fashion Vanguard Award 2026’ on her Facebook account, writing, “See you, dear Chattogram.”
Later, Faruk Munir, former executive member of the Chattogram Press Club and a journalist with Kaler Kantho, drew the organisers’ attention to the matter by sharing the poster on social media.
In his post, he urged the organisers to find an alternative guest unless the actress publicly apologised to Robi, a journalist with Daily Samakal, and his mother.
Following his post, protests and resentment spread among journalists working in Chattogram. The organisers subsequently released a revised poster excluding Pori Mon.
The event is scheduled to take place on November 28 at a community centre in the Khulshi area of Chattogram.
