College student goes missing in Jaflong

Sylhet Office : A college student has gone missing in Piyain River of tourist hotspot Jaflong in Sylhet.
He has been identified as Akikur Rahman Anik, 20, son of Dhola Miah from Habiganj and first year Economics student of Murari Chand College, our local correspondent reports.
Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge of Gowainghat Police Station, said Anik, accompanied by seven of his friends, went to visit Jaflong this morning.
Anik went missing when he tried to swim in the river water around 2:00pm, said the OC.
On information, a diver team of fire service and civil defence team rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. However, he could not be found until 7:00pm.
Jaflong, an area bordering India, is a popular tourist destination for its rocky river bed at the base of mountains that build up on the Indian side of the territory.
