Govt plans 10 dialysis machines at district hospitals, 50 at medical colleges

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain has said that the government has taken an initiative to install 10 dialysis machines at each district-level hospital and 50 machines at each medical college hospital across the country.
He made the announcement at a seminar organised at the National Heart Foundation in the capital to mark World Heart Day.
The health minister alleged that the previous government had taken no significant steps to improve the country’s healthcare sector and that many of the machines procured during that period were unusable.
“Billions and trillions of taka were spent, but the expected results were not achieved.”
Sakhawat Hossain said the government has allocated the highest-ever budget for the health sector this year, reflecting its increased priority on healthcare.
He also said the government has taken an initiative to upgrade every upazila health complex from 50 beds to 151 beds.
The expansion, he said, is expected to ease some of the pressure on hospitals in Dhaka by increasing healthcare capacity at the local level.
