Charge Framing Against Hasina, 285 Others Deferred

A Dhaka court on Wednesday deferred the framing of charges against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 285 others in a sedition case over their alleged involvement in a ‘Joy Bangla Brigade’ Zoom meeting and a plot to overthrow the interim government.
Acting Judge Mosaddeq Minhaj of the Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court fixed October 15 for the next hearing as the regular judge had been transferred.
The accused who are in custody were produced before the court, court sources said.
The case was filed against Hasina and 72 others on March 27, 2025, by CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Enamul Haque following approval from the Home Ministry.
According to the case statement, a virtual meeting of the ‘Joy Bangla Brigade’ was held on December 19, 2024, with 577 participants from home and abroad. The prosecution alleged that the participants discussed forming the platform, launching a civil war and restoring Hasina to power.
After investigation, CID submitted a charge sheet against Hasina and 285 others on August 14 last year. The court subsequently accepted the charge sheet and issued arrest warrants against all the accused.
Thirty accused, including former MP Sabina Akter Tuhin, have so far been shown arrested in the case. Among the prominent accused are United States Awami League vice-president Dr Rabbi Alam, former MPs Syed Rubina Akter and Pankaj Nath, lawyer Kamrul Islam and former Chhatra League president Saddam Hossain.
The case was transferred to the Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court in February for expeditious disposal.
