British-Bangladeshi Student Drowns in Wales Lake

Mohammed Naim Islam (20), a British-Bangladeshi student, has died by drowning while visiting Wales in the UK. The accident occurred at a lake on September 26 (local time).

According to sources, Naim had traveled to Wales from London with two Bangladeshi friends. While performing *Wudu* (ritual ablution) by the lakeside, he lost his balance due to strong winds and fell into the water. As he did not know how to swim, he quickly sank.

One of his friends jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue him, but despite an extensive search, he could not be found. Police were subsequently notified, and a rescue team launched a search operation. Naim’s body was recovered after an operation lasting approximately 13 to 14 hours.

News of Naim’s death plunged his family, relatives, and acquaintances in both the UK and Bangladesh into deep mourning.

Naim’s maternal uncle, Maulana Siddiqur Rahman, stated that the family learned of the accident around 1:00 AM. Upon receiving the news, Naim’s father, Mohammed Nurul Islam, set out for Wales from East London.

Family sources indicate that Naim’s body is likely to be transported from Wales to London on September 28. However, the time and venue for the funeral prayer (*Janaza*) have not yet been finalized; details regarding this will be announced later.

Naim was the second child in his family and was studying at a university in the UK. His father is a member of the central committee of the Krishak Dal (Farmers’ Party). Their ancestral home is in Gwalabazar Union, Osmaninagar Upazila, Sylhet.
