Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Sarwar Alam has issued a strict deadline for the return of white stones looted from the Bholaganj stone quarry, warning that all unreturned stones must be restored to their original location by Tuesday, August 26, or face legal consequences.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, DC Sarwar said that individuals or groups in possession of the stones must return them at their own expense.
“This is the final warning. Those who fail to comply will face legal action under relevant laws. Zero tolerance will be enforced,” he said.
The announcement came following a coordination meeting with local representatives and business leaders from Companiganj and Sylhet Sadar Upazilas, where the unauthorized removal of stones has been most rampant.
As part of the effort, the administration has launched a public awareness campaign, including loudspeaker announcements across affected areas, urging residents to return the stones promptly.
Three key decisions were announced including returning the looted stones be returned to Bholaganj by August 26.
Sarwar stressed that public representatives would also be held accountable if stolen stones are not recovered from their constituencies.
“They are part of the governance structure and must act accordingly. Inaction will not be excused,” he warned.
In addition to the recovery campaign, the administration is working with law enforcement to identify and prosecute those behind the organized looting.
“This is not just about returning stones—it’s about protecting public property and deterring future violations. The masterminds will be brought to justice,” said DC Sarwar.
