A man was hacked to death allegedly by his elder brother over a longstanding land dispute in Sunamganj’s Bishwambarpur upazila.
The victim Mojibur Rahman, 60, was attacked while offering prayer at a mosque on Wednesday night (July 16) at Chargaon village.
Police have arrested the accused, Lutfor Rahman, in a special operation. Both the victim and the accused are sons of Kamru Munshi from Chargaon village.
According to police and locals, Lutfor and Mojibur had been in a dispute for years over family property. On Wednesday night, Mojibur went to offer the Esha prayer at the mosque near their house. Seizing the moment, Lutfor entered the mosque with a locally made weapon and attacked his younger brother while he was praying.
Locals rushed him to Bishwambarpur Health Complex, but due to his critical condition, doctors referred him to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. Despite efforts, Mojibur died later that night while undergoing treatment.
Bishwambarpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mokhlesur Rahman confirmed the arrest of the elder brother. He added that the body of the deceased remains at the hospital in Sylhet for further procedures.
