Two drown in Moulvibazar floodwater

A child and a teenager drowned in floodwater in Moulvibazar Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The incident took place at Shyamer Kona village under Chadnighat union in the upazila..
The deceased were identified as Chadi Mia, 8, son of Pachan Mia, a resident of Pashchim Shyam Kona village, and Hriday Mia, 17, son of Zamir Mia of the same village.
Aktar Uddin, chairman of Chandnighat union, said that the embankment of the Dhalai River broke and the roads of Shyam Kona village and surrounding villages were submerged in water.
Both of them drowned in the water as they did not know how to swim while they were playing in the water.
Later, locals rescued the duo and took them to the Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital in an unconscious state where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.
