Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shimada, paid an official visit to Bangladesh on Wednesday, during which he met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and attended several key bilateral events.
According to a statement posted by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its official Facebook page, the visiting Japanese minister held separate meetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman to discuss issues of mutual interest and bilateral cooperation.
During the visit, Shimada also attended the memorial ceremony marking the Dhaka terrorist attack, paying tribute to the victims of the deadly incident that claimed the lives of several people, including Japanese nationals.
He further took part in the handover ceremony for Japan’s Official Security Assistance (OSA) project, underscoring Tokyo’s continued commitment to strengthening security cooperation with Bangladesh.
The visit reflects the growing strategic partnership between Bangladesh and Japan, with both countries maintaining close cooperation in areas including economic development, infrastructure, security and regional stability.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan did not immediately disclose further details of the discussions held during the meetings.
