Foreign Affairs State Minister Shama Obaed Islam has said statements of support from the international community are no longer enough to resolve the Rohingya crisis, and effective action is now needed.
She made the remarks as the chief guest at a Rohingya-related event at the Senate Building of Dhaka University on Wednesday.
Shama said the international community must focus on creating conditions for the safe and dignified repatriation of Rohingyas to Myanmar and addressing the growing security concerns in Cox’s Bazar.
She said Rohingyas do not reject Myanmar as their homeland but reject the conditions that forced them to flee.
“Rohingyas want rights, not charity,” she said, adding that a sustainable solution lies in Myanmar and Bangladesh cannot bear the crisis indefinitely.
