Female students of Government Titumir College staged a protest on Tuesday night demanding a ban on student politics, protesting the expulsion of three students over the issue.
The demonstration began around 10:00pm on Tuesday, when protesters broke the main gate lock of the Sufia Kamal Hall and gathered inside. The protest continued past midnight, with students chanting slogans such as “The hall belongs to no one’s father, student politics must stop” and “Break down the administration’s evil hands.”
According to sources, tensions had been building since Monday, when an 11-member committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal was announced for the hall. The move sparked widespread anger among female students, leading to protests that eventually forced the authorities to withdraw the committee.
Following the incident, the college administration formed a three-member investigation committee.
However, protesting students alleged that three residents were expelled from the hall without any fair investigation. The expelled students claimed that the allegations mentioned in the official notice were false and baseless. Although the notice referred to findings from an investigation committee, they said the committee never spoke to them.
The protesters reiterated their demand for a complete ban on student politics in female dormitories. They also announced that their protest would continue until the expulsion orders are withdrawn and a neutral investigation is conducted.
