Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Tabith Awal has congratulated the triumphant national U-20 team on retaining the SAFF U-20 Men’s Championship title.
Following a goalless regulation 90 minutes against neighbours India in the Maldives on Friday, the 2026 SAFF U-20 final rolled into penalties where Bangladesh prevailed 4-3 with Ronan Sullivan slotting home the decisive spot-kick with an ice-cool Panenka.
The boys in red and green had earlier begun their campaign with a win over Pakistan before sharing the spoils in a draw against India to conclude their group phase. They then defeated Nepal in the semi-final before overcoming India in the grand finale.
“We congratulate the U-20 boys’ team, coaching staff, and all the fans on becoming the SAFF 2026 champions. This victory is the direct result of the patriotism and dedication of every player. This moment will propel Bangladesh’s journey to a higher level of international football. We thank the fans, we thank the players, and we thank the Prime Minister of Bangladesh,” said BFF chief Tabith following the momentous victory.
