The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has significantly disrupted operations at Shah Amanat International Airport, forcing the cancellation of at least 25 international flights over the past three days.
The disruption follows the closure of major airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, leading to a temporary suspension of several Middle East-bound flights from Chattogram.
However, flight operations on the Oman-bound Muscat route remain normal.
Public Relations Officer of the airport, Engineer Ibrahim Khalil, confirmed the developments on Monday morning.
Flights Suspended
Airport sources said several key Middle East-bound flights were suspended from Monday morning. These include:
Biman Bangladesh Airlines: Two departure flights to Middle Eastern destinations
US-Bangla Airlines: One departure and one arrival flight
Air Arabia: One departure flight
Authorities said that since February 28, the worsening war situation in the Middle East has compelled the airport to cancel a total of 25 international flights.
Muscat Route Operating Normally
While the Dubai and Sharjah routes remain suspended, flights to Oman are continuing. On Monday, a SalamAir flight (OV-401) landed at Shah Amanat International Airport at 8:15 am. The return flight (OV-402) departed for Muscat at 9:30 am with passengers.
Ongoing Uncertainty
Ibrahim Khalil said the closure of several major Middle Eastern airports due to the conflict has caused severe schedule disruptions. He warned that international flight uncertainty and schedule changes may continue until the situation stabilizes.
The sudden cancellations have left hundreds of expatriate passengers facing uncertainty and inconvenience.
