Padma bridge sees record Tk 5.43cr toll

Published: 06 June 2025, 3:20:15

The Padma Bridge witnessed a record-breaking toll collection of Tk 5.43 crore on Thursday, as 52,487 vehicles crossed the bridge within 24 hours; the highest daily traffic since its inauguration.

This milestone surpassed the previous record set on June 26, 2022; the day of the bridge’s opening, when 51,316 vehicles used the bridge. The earlier highest toll collection was Tk 4.89 crore, recorded on April 9, 2024.

The new record was achieved on the first day of 10-day Eid-ul-Azha holiday, reflecting the surge in holiday travel.

On the same day, authorities collected over Tk 4.09 crore in tolls from 37,465 vehicles.

According to Bangladesh Bridge Authority, 16,502 vehicles entered from the Jajira side, contributing Tk 2.26 crore, while 35,985 vehicles crossed from the Mawa side, generating Tk 3.16 crore in tolls.

As the Padma Bridge approaches its third anniversary on June 25, it has so far facilitated the movement of 1,89,64,218 vehicles and generated more than Tk 2,452.82 crore in toll revenue.

Joint Secretary and Director (Administration) of Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Altaf Hossain Sheikh, noted that the Padma Bridge continues to play a critical role in easing travel, particularly for Eid holidaymakers heading home.
