Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam has stated that India will be held accountable if ousted leader Sheikh Hasina engages in any political activities while staying there.
“India has provided shelter to Sheikh Hasina, and they have their own reasons for doing so. We have formally requested India to return her to Bangladesh, which is a diplomatic matter. However, if she attempts to conduct political activities or hold meetings from India, then the Indian government will bear responsibility,” Nahid said.
He made these remarks at the unveiling ceremony of the book Sangbadpatra-e July Ovyutthan (July Uprising in Newspapers) at the Poet Shamsur Rahman Auditorium of Bangla Academy.
Nahid also warned of resistance against any potential unrest in February and March, saying, “We, the students and the people, will take to the streets to counter any attempts at creating instability.” He emphasized that efforts were underway to divide national unity and create fear among the people.
Addressing the role of the media during the July uprising, Nahid called on newspaper editors who took controversial stances at the time to clarify their positions. He noted that while some newspapers were compelled to publish government-mandated reports, others deliberately crafted narratives in support of the regime.
“Those who were forced to publish the regime’s statements should publicly explain their stance. Otherwise, they risk losing credibility,” he said.
He urged citizens to remain united for the greater good of the country.
Among the speakers at the event were Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director Mahbub Morshed, Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) Director General Faruque Wasif, Adarsha Prakashani publisher Mahbubur Rahman, and the book’s author, Senior Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Ahammad Foyez.
