Actor Shimu murder: Trial of husband, his friend begins

A court in Dhaka has framed charges against husband Khandker Sakhawat Alim Nobel and his friend SMY Abdullah Farhad in actor Raima Islam Shimu murder case.
Through framing the charges, trial in the murder case has formally begun.
Dhaka Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Shafiqul Islam passed the order on Tuesday (November 29), rejecting the accused’s petition for acquittal from the case.
At the same time, the court set January 23 next year for registering the testimonies in the case.
Earlier, the two accused were brought at the court. At that time, the lawyer of the accused pleaded for acquittal of them from the case.
On the other hand, the state side held hearing on framing charges. After hearing both sides, the judge framed the charges rejecting the petition for acquittal.
Earlier on September 18, the court accepted the chargesheet against husband Khandker Sakhawat Alim Nobel and his friend SMY Abdullah Farhad in actress Raima Islam Shimu murder case.
On August 29, investigation officer of the case Keraniganj Model Police Station’s inspector Shahidul Islam submitted the chargesheet to court.
On January 17 this year, Raima Islam Shimu’s severed boy was found inside a bush beside the road at Aliapur area near Hazratpur Bridge in Keraniganj. The 41-year-old actress lived with her family at Green Road under Kalabagan Police Station in the capital. After identifying the body, Keraniganj police launched an extensive investigation into the gruesome murder.
Police said the murderers dumped Shimu’s body at roadside at Hazratpur Bridge in Keraniganj after killing her. Though the murderers had killed Shimu in a planned way, they left some clues. Instantly, police seized vital clues. Shimu’s husband accused Nobel, 48, and his friend SMY Abdullah Farhad, 47, were detained for questioning. The detained were taken to Keraniganj Police Station at night where they were interrogated extensively. Under intense questioning, the accused confessed their involvement in Shimu murder.
On January 18, Shimu’s elder brother Harun-ur-Rashid filed a murder case at Keraniganj Model Police Station.
