Man arrested for ‘raping’ mentally challenged girl in Sylhet

Sylhet Office : Police here on Saturday arrested a man for reportedly raping a mentally challenged girl in Fulsain area of Gopalganj in the district.
The arrestee is Jakir Mia, 21, a carpenter and son of Joynal Mia of Barachak village in the upazila.
Jakir violated the girl on Friday night when she was alone at her home, but her family members caught Jakir red-handed and handed him over to police, according to the case statement.
Later on Saturday, the victim’s mother filed a case with Gopalganj Model Police Station, said AKM Fazlul Haque Shibli, officer-in-charge of the police station.
The girl was admitted to the upazila health complex for treatment and medical examination, he added.
