Argentina produced a ruthless attacking display, crushing Burkina Faso 7-0 in a friendly at the Estadio Monumental on Sunday as Lionel Scaloni’s side extended their remarkable run to 16 wins in their last 17 matches across all competitions.
The gulf between the two sides was evident from the opening whistle, with Argentina dominating possession and repeatedly tearing through Burkina Faso’s defense.
Lautaro Martínez opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the fourth minute. Burkina Faso defender Moumouni Diallo was booked for a foul on Agustín Giay inside the box. Martínez initially saw his spot-kick saved by goalkeeper Abdoul Gouira, but reacted quickest to fire home the rebound.
Argentina doubled their lead just four minutes later when Diallo turned the ball into his own net while attempting to clear a shot.
Gianluca Prestianni made it 3-0 in the eighth minute, calmly placing the ball beyond the goalkeeper after receiving a precise pass from Martínez.
Burkina Faso struggled to contain Argentina as the hosts maintained more than 75 percent possession. Nico Paz added a fourth in the 35th minute with a low shot from the right side before Julián Álvarez struck again just before halftime, finishing a move set up by Prestianni.
With the game effectively decided, Scaloni made several changes after the break, giving opportunities to players from the bench. Burkina Faso coach Amir Abdou also made multiple substitutions in an effort to reduce the deficit.
Argentina, however, continued to press forward.
Franco Mastantuono scored the sixth in the 57th minute with a powerful finish after a flowing team move. Julián Simeone completed the rout deep into stoppage time, heading home Argentina’s seventh goal.
The result means Argentina have scored 11 goals across their last two matches. Burkina Faso, meanwhile, have now failed to score in six of their last seven defeats.
The emphatic victory further underlined Argentina’s attacking depth as the world champions continued their strong run under Scaloni.
