‘Will protect national interests’: India on Bangladesh’s review of 101 pacts

India on Friday said New Delhi would take “all necessary actions to protect its interests” amid Bangladesh’s review of 101 bilateral agreements signed during the previous Awami League government.

Addressing a weekly briefing, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi had seen media reports about the review but had received no official communication from Dhaka.

“We also have seen some media reports on this matter, but nothing has been conveyed to us officially. Obviously, India will take all necessary actions to protect its interests,” the MEA spokesperson said.

Bangladesh Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni said on 11 September that the government was reviewing 101 agreements and memorandums of understanding signed with India during the Awami League government to determine whether any provisions were against Bangladesh’s interests.
