Sylhet Police launches drive to arrest that chained teenage girl

Police launched an investigation after a video showing a teenage girl chained around her waist and tortured over theft allegations in Sylhet.
The incident occurred on Monday around 7:00 PM at the D-Block Mosque Market area in Shahparan, Sylhet city. Local residents detained the girl, alleging she attempted to steal from a shop’s cash register.
Witnesses reported that locals beat the girl, bound her waist with an iron chain, and forced her to walk along the street late at night. The viral video showed a youth dragging the girl by the chain while she wept bitterly.
Shahparan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) stated that police rescued the girl around 11:30 PM after receiving information from locals. She was subsequently sent to court over the theft allegations.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam stated that authorities are working to identify those involved in the chaining and torture. Legal action will be taken swiftly against the perpetrators.
