Probe body formed over Sylhet bus crash that killed nine

The Sylhet district administration today formed a five-member committee to investigate the cause of a head-on collision between two buses that killed nine people, including women and children, in Osmaninagar upazila.
The committee, headed by Additional District Magistrate Pinky Saha, has been asked to submit its report within five working days.
Its other members are representatives from the highway police, fire service, roads and highways department, and Osmaninagar upazila administration.
Abdullah Al Mamun, deputy commissioner of Sylhet, said the committee will examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, the movements of the two buses, the drivers’ roles and road conditions.

Seven people died at the scene and two others died later in hospital. Another 14 injured passengers are receiving treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The district administration provided Tk 10,000 to each injured person and Tk 15,000 to a critically injured patient in the ICU. Families of the deceased received Tk 20,000 each for burial expenses.
Meanwhile, the Expatriates’ Welfare Minister and Sylhet-4 MP Ariful Haque Choudhury visited the injured and said the prime minister had instructed authorities to provide Tk 5 lakh to each deceased victim’s family, Tk 3 lakh to those who became disabled and Tk 1 lakh to other injured passengers for treatment.
