Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has warned that Special Powers Act will be enforced against market syndicates and hoarding.
”Those involved in hoarding should think carefully before doing so.”
He made the remarks on Saturday after inspecting the wholesale jute and onion markets and arat (wholesale trading centres) in Shailkupa, Jhenidah.
The law minister said the government would work to dismantle syndicates in all sectors so that marginal farmers can benefit fairly from their produce.
”Traders have formed syndicates in markets and held farmers hostage. We are working to break these syndicates.”
Asaduzzaman added, ”Farmers work hard and produce crops but often fail to receive fair prices. Once they bring their produce to the market, various syndicates and excessive charges cause them further losses.”
