Universal Medical hosts transplant seminar

Universal Medical College Hospital, in collaboration with India’s Max Healthcare, on Thursday organized a scientific seminar in the capital highlighting the latest advances in bone marrow transplantation, kidney transplantation and the treatment of complex blood disorders.
The seminar was held at Lecture Gallery-1 of Universal Medical College and brought together leading specialists from Bangladesh and India to exchange knowledge on emerging technologies and international best practices in transplantation medicine.
The keynote presentations were delivered by Dr. Satyaranjan Das, Senior Director of Hemato-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at Max Healthcare, and Dr. Anil Prasad Bhatt, Senior Director of Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation at Max Healthcare. They discussed the latest developments, treatment protocols and global experiences in bone marrow transplantation, complex hematological diseases and advanced kidney transplant procedures.
Welcoming the guests, Managing Director of Universal Medical College Hospital Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty said the hospital is working to introduce liver, bone marrow, bone and joint, and kidney transplantation services in the future. He also underscored the importance of strengthening Bangladesh’s healthcare sector through international collaboration and knowledge exchange. The vote of thanks was delivered by Principal of Universal Medical College Prof. Dr. Uttam Kumar Pal.
The nephrology and kidney transplantation panel included Prof. Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Senior Consultant and Urologist; Prof. Dr. Rana Mokarram Hossain, Nephrologist; and Associate Professor Dr. Tofayel Ahmad, Nephrologist.
The hematology panel featured Senior Consultant Lt. Col. Dr. Ruksana Khanam, Hematologist; Dr. Farhana Islam Neela, Transfusion Specialist; and Dr. Md. Akhlak-Ul-Islam, Hematologist.
Among others present at the event were Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Prof. Dr. A.K. Mahbubul Haque, Director (Medical Services) of Universal Medical College Hospital; Deputy Director Dr. Kazi Rafiqul Alam; AIMS Healthcare Limited CEO Md. Mushfikur Rahman; and heads of various clinical departments of the medical college.
The seminar was moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Anika Mahbub of the Department of Transfusion Medicine, while Dr. Ayesha Siddiqua served as the coordinator.
The participating experts said kidney and bone marrow transplantation have become integral to modern medicine, significantly improving patient survival and enabling many individuals with serious illnesses to lead healthier and more normal lives. The programme concluded with the presentation of commemorative awards to the invited guests.
