The Water Development Board (WDB) on Tuesday noon forecast flash floods in parts of 12 districts over the next 24-72 hours amid continuous heavy rain, and a persistent rise in river water levels.
According to WDB’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC), river-adjacent low-lying areas in parts of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Netrokona, Sherpur and Mymensingh could face flash floods within the next 24-72 hours.
Furthermore, the Teesta River’s water could breach the danger level within the next 48 hours, potentially causing flash floods at river-adjacent low-lying areas in Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat districts.
Within the next 72 hours, flash floods could affect river-adjacent low-lying areas in parts of Bandarban, Feni, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Khagrachhari. In Lakshmipur and Noakhali too, parts of river-adjacent low-lying areas could witness short-term floods, as per FFWC.
