Mayoral candidate Sirajul Islam’s exchange of views with UK Bangla Reporters Unity

Bangla Mirror Desk : Ahead of the May 7 election for London’s traditional Tower Hamlets Council, Labour Party mayoral candidate Sirajul Islam officially announced his election manifesto, and this time he exchanged views with UK Bangla Reporters Unity for the second time about the election plan and talked about change.
On Thursday (April 23) Evening, in a hall in East London, Labour Party mayoral candidate Sirajul Islam was present, along with former Tower Hamlets Council Speaker Ahbab Hossain, former Speaker Khalis Ahmed, councillor candidate Shaheda Rahman, councillor candidate Saad Chowdhury, councillor candidate Jaglul Khan and many others.

Suez Mia, Bangladesh Press Club President Shakir Hossain, photographer GR Sohel, journalist Sajjadur Rahman, Reporters Unity’s Media and IT Secretary Sohel Ahmed, Event Management-Facilities Secretary Imran Talukder, UKTVBD Chair Abdul Momin, Bricklane TV head Dilu Chowdhury, Caregiver Association advisor Shahan Chowdhury, and others.
Abdul Bashir, General Secretary of UK Bangla Reporters Unity, welcomed Sirajul Islam, the Labour Party mayoral candidate for Tower Hamlets Council, and all those present.
During an exchange of views with journalists from UK Bangla Reporters Unity, mayoral candidate Sirajul Islam said that a total of 25 promises have been included in his announced manifesto, where good governance, housing, education, security, environment and social welfare have been given priority.
As part of good governance and fiscal transparency, the Labor Party has pledged to restore proper governance, correct past failures, and end nepotism.
There has been a promise to ensure proper use of public money and award contracts based on merit.
There is also a plan to keep council tax fixed for the first two years.
He also outlined plans to support about 10,000 families in the housing sector by 2030 through the construction or repurchase of 5,000 social housing units.
He also spoke about rent control, modernization of old housing, and ensuring accountability in housing management.
At that time, he promised to expand tuition facilities in English and mathematics from primary level to GCSE, maintain free school meals, and preserve education allowances in the education sector.
At the same time, he said, investment in youth services and child development will also be important.
There are plans to strengthen neighborhood-based policing, invest in CCTV, increase tree planting, and expand recycling programs to create a safe and green environment. A goal has been set to ensure at least 33 percent recycling by 2030.
In addition, emphasis has been placed on increasing road safety and environmentally friendly initiatives. As part of social and welfare, free home services for the elderly and disabled have been continued, long-term plans have been adopted to eradicate poverty, and promises have been made to strengthen the safety of women and children.
In response to various questions from the journalists present, mayoral candidate Sirajul Islam said that he would revive various cultural events including the Baisakhi Fair and the Brick Lane Curry Festival. He also said that in the future, facilities and various gifts will be provided for the discussion of art, literature and culture in small rooms at the Town Hall.
The council’s other centers, which are closed, will be reopened for the benefit of the community.
Sirajul Islam has promised to hold regular public dialogues and launch an ‘Ask the Mayor’ program every three months to ensure accountability.
The Labour Party leaders and candidates present expressed hope that voters would support them in the upcoming election on May 7 and that the Labour Party would win in Tower Hamlets Council.
