The National Sports Council (NSC) on Tuesday officially dissolved the Aminul Islam Bulbul–led Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), citing “huge-scale irregularities” in the last board election. An 11-member ad-hoc committee will now be formed to run the board and oversee fresh elections within 90 days.
The development follows a probe committee’s report recommending reforms to ensure a free and fair BCB election, confirming earlier reporting by Daily Sun that dissolution was imminent and an ad-hoc committee was being prepared.
NSC officials said they have already communicated with the International Cricket Council (ICC) about the investigation’s findings and the plan to install an interim committee.
“The investigation committee found massive irregularities in the previous election, and we have decided to form an 11-member ad-hoc committee to run the board. They will conduct fresh elections within the next 90 days,” an NSC official told reporters on Tuesday.
“We have informed the ICC about both the findings and our decision to form the ad-hoc committee, and we are now waiting for their response,” he added.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque had earlier stated that the government would act only after discussing the probe report with the ICC.
