Bangladesh Under-20 extended their unbeaten run in the SAFF U-20 Men’s Championship, securing a place in the final with a disciplined and hard-earned 1-0 victory over Nepal, thanks to an early strike from Md Manik.
Carrying momentum from an impressive group-stage campaign, Bangladesh made an assertive start to the semi-final, dominating possession and dictating the tempo from the outset.
Their intent paid off in the 11th minute, when Morshed Ali delivered a delicate chipped ball from just outside the box, and Manik rose highest to power home a superb header and give Bangladesh the lead.
Bangladesh came close to doubling their advantage just a minute later.
Yusuf Ali led a swift counter-attack, driving forward before setting up Ronan Sullivan inside the box.
The forward found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
The remainder of the first half saw Bangladesh maintain control, particularly in midfield where Nazmul Huda Faisal and Morshed orchestrated play.
Nepal struggled to respond, and Bangladesh went into the break with a deserved lead.
After the restart, Bangladesh continued to push forward but were unable to add a second goal.
Nepal showed more urgency late on, but Bangladesh’s defence stood firm under pressure.
A notable moment came in the 87th minute, when Declan Sullivan, a USA-born right-back, made his debut.
His introduction added pace and attacking intent, with his link-up play alongside Ronan causing problems for Nepal’s defence in the closing stages.
Bangladesh, the reigning champions, are now just one step away from retaining their title.
The last edition of the tournament, held in 2024, saw Bangladesh crowned champions after a dominant 4–1 victory over Nepal in the final.
This time, having once again overcome Nepal now in the semi-final—they have reached the final stage of their title defence mission.
Manik’s decisive goal ultimately proved enough, as Bangladesh held on to secure a place in the final, edging closer to back-to-back SAFF U-20 triumphs.
