Three killed in Moulvibazar road accident

Three people were killed in a head-on collision between a microbus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar district.
The accident took place on the Sreemangal–Moulvibazar highway in the Lamuya area of the upazila on Monday (30 March).
One of the deceased was identified as auto-rickshaw driver Abdul Hannan, 50, a resident of the Bharaura area on the outskirts of Sreemangal town. The identities of the two others could not be confirmed immediately.
According to local sources, the auto-rickshaw was travelling from Sreemangal to Moulvibazar with passengers shortly before evening. When it reached the Sirajnagar area under Kalapur union, it collided head-on with a speeding microbus coming from the opposite direction.
The front portion of the auto-rickshaw was severely damaged in the collision, leaving the driver and two passengers critically injured.
Local residents rescued them and took them to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors later declared them dead while undergoing treatment.
Confirming the incident, Sreemangal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Zahirul Islam said the bodies were kept at the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
The microbus driver, however, was detained from the scene, he said.
