With gold hitting a new record in the local market, prices of the precious metal have reached a fresh high of Tk269,788 per bhori, breaking all previous records.
Jewellers increased the price of each bhori gold by Tk7,348 due to a hike in the prices of pure gold in the international market.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) on Wednesday (28 January).
The revised prices came into effect nationwide from 10:15am the same day.
Under the new price structure, the price of 22-carat gold has risen to Tk269,788 per bhori, 21-carat gold at Tk259,815 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk220,741 per bhori, and traditional gold at Tk181,725 per bhori.
Silver prices have also reached record levels. BAJUS fixed the price of 22-carat silver at Tk7,756 per bhori, while 21-carat silver will sell at Tk7,406 and 18-carat silver at Tk6,356 per bhori. Traditional silver has been priced at Tk5,143 per bhori.
Buyers will also have to pay an additional 5% VAT set by the government, along with a minimum 6% making charge fixed by BAJUS. The making charge may vary depending on design and quality.
Earlier on 26 January, gold reached an all-time high of Tk262,440 per bhori in the country.
