Appeals against rejection of nomination papers open, to be continued till Jan 9

The appeal proceedings against the returning officers’ decision on acceptance and rejection of nomination papers began on Monday with the Election Commission.
It can be filed with the EC till 5PM on January 9. Any aggrieved candidate, bank or financial institution, government agency, or any person duly authorised in writing by a candidate may submit an appeal within the stipulated time.
Mentionable, the appeals will be disposed from January 10 to 18.
After scrutiny of nomination papers ended on Sunday, a notification was issued which stated that a total of 1,842 nomination papers were found valid, while 723 were rejected in 300 parliamentary constituencies.
A total of 2,568 candidates had submitted nomination papers in the 300 constituencies by the December 29 deadline to contest the February 12 election.
