After eight straight increases, gold prices have seen their steepest single-day drop of the year, with the price of 22-carat gold falling by more than Tk 8,000 per bhori.
In a press release issued Wednesday night, Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced that the price of 22-carat gold has been slashed by Tk 8,386 per bhori (11.664 grams), bringing the new rate down to Tk 2,08,996 per bhori.
The revised prices come into effect from Thursday.
BAJUS attributed the significant price cut to a decline in the local market price of pure gold (tejabi gold).
Under the new pricing, 21-carat gold will now cost Tk 1,99,501 per bhori, while 18-carat gold has been set at Tk 1,70,994 per bhori. The price of traditional (non-standard) gold has been adjusted to Tk 1,42,219 per bhori.
The association also noted that the final retail price will include a 5% VAT, as fixed by the government, along with a minimum 6% making charge determined by BAJUS.
However, the actual making charge may vary depending on the jewellery’s design and craftsmanship.
This adjustment follows the last price revision on October 19, when BAJUS increased the price by Tk 1,050 per bhori, setting an all-time high of Tk 2,17,382 for 22-carat gold.
With this latest change, BAJUS has now revised gold prices 67 times in 2025; raising them 48 times and lowering them 19 times.
