Dhaka Customs to stay open over weekend to clear airport cargo backlog

Dhaka Customs House will remain operational on Friday and Saturday to ease cargo congestion following the recent fire at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The decision aims to maintain the smooth flow of import, export and business activities during this transitional period.
An official order issued on Wednesday confirmed that all customs assessment teams; including the Air Freight Unit and the Express Service Unit, will continue their regular operations on both days.
Relevant officials and staff have been instructed to report to duty as scheduled to ensure trade-related procedures proceed without disruption.
Authorities say the extended working days are intended to protect public and economic interests by minimizing delays in cargo clearance.
A major fire broke out at the airport’s cargo village on October 18, halting flight operations for several hours and severely impacting cargo handling.
As a result, a significant backlog of import consignments has built up, straining storage capacity and slowing down customs processing.
