Twelve additional witnesses testified on Wednesday in three corruption cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed Putul over alleged irregularities in the allocation of plots in the Purbachal New Town Project.
Judge Md Abdullah Al Mamun of the Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 recorded the testimonies and set October 29 for the next hearing.
According to court sources, among the witnesses were Al Mamun Mia, Director-2 at the Chief Adviser’s Office; Tanzillur Rahman, Deputy Secretary at RAJUK; stenographer Zakir Hossain; and sub-registrars Mahbubur Rahman and Zahidur Rahman.
ACC prosecutor Sultan Mahmud said that five witnesses testified in the case against Sheikh Hasina, five in the one against Saima Wazed Putul and two in the case against Sajeeb Wazed Joy—totalling 12 testimonies across the three cases.
Earlier, on July 31, the court framed charges against 23 accused, including seven members of Sheikh Hasina’s family, in six separate cases related to the alleged misuse of power in plot allocation.
Since the trial began in August, the court has recorded testimonies from multiple witnesses—17 on August 26, 18 on September 2, 10 on September 17, and 9 on September 30.
The ACC filed the six cases in January, accusing Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana and Rehana’s children — Tulip Rizwana Siddiq (MP, UK), Radwan Mujib Siddiq and Azmira Siddiq — among others. Arrest warrants remain in effect for the absconding accused.
According to the case files, the accused allegedly abused state power to unlawfully obtain six residential plots in Sector 27 of the Purbachal New Town Project, despite being ineligible under allocation rules.
