The price of gold in Bangladesh has reached a new record, with the highest quality 22-carat gold now costing BDT 2,13,719 per bhori (11.664 grams).
The increase of Tk 4,618 per bhori came following a rise in the price of refined gold in the local market. The new rates will take effect from Tuesday, October 14, according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BAJUS).
The BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring decided the hike during a meeting on Monday, as confirmed in a notice signed by the committee chairman Masudur Rahman.
Earlier, on October 9, gold prices were raised, breaking previous records. At that time, the price of 22-carat gold per vori was set at BDT 2,09,101. With the latest increase, the previous record has now been surpassed.
Other gold categories have also seen price adjustments as 21-carat gold: up Tk 4,409 to Tk2,04,003 per bhori, 18-carat gold: up Tk 3,676 to Tk 1,74,855 per bhori, traditional gold: up Tk 3,219 to Tk 1,45,520 per bhori, and silver prices have also risen.
The new rates per vori are 22-carat silver: Tk 6,205 (up Tk 1,224), 21-carat silver: Tk 5,914 (up Tk 1,167), 18-carat silver: Tk 5,074 (up Tk 1,003), and traditional silver: Tk 3,802 (up Tk 746).
The latest hike reflects the growing demand for precious metals amid fluctuations in the local and global market.
