The Bangladesh Army has issued alerts across all land, air, and sea ports to apprehend former CTIB Director Major General Kabir Ahmed, accused in two cases of crimes against humanity linked to enforced disappearances during the previous Awami League government.
At a press briefing in Dhaka Cantonment on Saturday, Adjutant General Major General Md Hakimuzzaman said Kabir Ahmed has been declared “illegally absent” after failing to respond to repeated calls to report to authorities.
“He left home on October 9 saying he was meeting a lawyer but never returned. His phone has been unreachable since,” Hakimuzzaman told reporters.
The army has informed the DGFI, NSI, and BGB to prevent him from leaving the country through any border point or port. His home district of Netrakona is also being monitored, he added.
Before serving as the military secretary to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Kabir Ahmed was the Director of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
