Barcelona overcame a first-half mistake by goalkeeper Joan Garcia to secure a 3-1 comeback win over newly promoted Real Oviedo in La Liga on Thursday.
The visitors were stunned in the 33rd minute when Garcia, venturing outside his box, misjudged a clearance that landed at the feet of Alberto Reina.
The Oviedo midfielder made no mistake, launching a stunning long-range strike from nearly 35 meters to score his first-ever goal in Spain’s top division.
Despite the setback, Barcelona took control after halftime. Eric Garcia brought them level in the 56th minute, capitalizing on a rebound after Ferran Torres’ shot hit the post.
The momentum continued with substitute Robert Lewandowski heading home from a pinpoint Frenkie de Jong cross in the 70th minute to put the visitors ahead.
Ronald Araujo added a third with another header in the 88th to seal the win.
The victory was Barcelona’s fifth in six matches and kept them two points behind league leaders Real Madrid, who remained perfect with a 4-1 win over Levante.
Speaking after the match, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick played down the early error. “He made one mistake, but we came back and won, which is what matters,” he said.
It was another tough outing for Oviedo, who are competing in La Liga for the first time in over 20 years.
Despite the guidance of veteran Santi Cazorla, the team has now lost five of its opening six matches.
