BNP Chairperson’s adviser and former opposition chief whip Zainul Abdin Faruk has asserted that despite various conspiracies around the upcoming election, the polls will take place as scheduled in February—and no one can stop them.
Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organized by the Nationalist Cultural Party at the National Press Club on Friday (August 29), Faruk criticized those who opposed Bangladesh’s independence in 1971, saying, “Those who stood against our liberation then continue to work against the country today. The nation cannot expect anything positive from them.”
The event, title “Shaheed Zia’s Contribution to the Formation of a Self-Reliant Bangladesh,” was held to mark the BNP’s 47th founding anniversary.
Faruk highlighted the public demand during the mass uprising, involving students and political parties, for a free, fair, and credible election. “The people will reclaim their voting rights, democracy will be restored, and freedom of speech will return. Yet, we see the opposite unfolding at times and in various forms,” he noted.
He warned, “Friends of fascism are plotting under different names to destabilize the country and sabotage the election. The sooner the national election happens, the better it will be for Bangladesh.”
