Autopsy finds no injury on journalist Bibhuranjan’s body

An autopsy conducted on the body of journalist Bibhuranjan Sarkar has revealed no signs of external or internal injuries, leading to new questions about the circumstances of his death.
The post-mortem was conducted at Munshiganj General Hospital on Saturday around 11:30 AM in the presence of police and family members.
Dr Sheikh Md Ehsanul Islam, residential medical officer (RMO) of the hospital, who conducted the autopsy, said, “The body was recovered from water and was in a slightly decomposed state. We did not find any sign of injury.”
“However, samples of teeth, hair, liver, kidney, and parts of the stomach have been collected and preserved for forensic analysis in Dhaka. A final opinion can only be given after receiving the laboratory reports,” he told the reporters.
Bibhuranjan Sarker’s younger brother, Chiroranjan Sarker, said, “We will wait for the final autopsy report. After completing all formalities here, we will take the body to Dhaka. It will first be kept for some time at his Siddheshwari residence and then cremated at Borodeshwari Kali Temple in Sabujbagh.”
On the question of legal action, he added, “We have not yet made any decision. Our family will sit together before making a decision.”
Inspector Mohammad Saleh Ahmed Pathan of Kolagachhia Naval Police Outpost said, “We will now hand over the body to the family. Further legal measures will be discussed with them.”
Bibhuranjan, 71, was the senior assistant editor of the daily Ajker Patrika. He had left his Siddheshwari home in Dhaka on Thursday morning and went missing soon after.
His body was recovered from the Meghna River in Gazaria, Munshiganj, on Friday afternoon.
