Police not allowed to carry heavy lethal weapons: Home Adviser

Published: 14 June 2025, 3:25:37

Field-level police personnel will not be allowed to carry heavy lethal weapons, except rifles, said Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

“Only specialized units like the APBN will be authorized to carry heavy arms.”

He made the remarks on Saturday at 11 AM while visiting headquarters of Armed Police Battalion (APBN) in the capital.

He spoke to reporters before heading to visit RAB-1 office.

“The government is working to enhance the overall capacity of law enforcement agencies, including APBN and the regular police,” the adviser said.

Claiming that law and order has improved significantly over the past 11 months under interim government, he added that except for a few minor incidents, this year’s Eid was celebrated peacefully across the country.
