Shafique Rehman regains declaration of ‘Jaijaidin’

Journalist Shafik Rehman has successfully regained the declaration of daily newspaper ‘Jaijaidin.’

The news was confirmed on Tuesday (March 18) by the order of Dhaka District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Tanveer Ahmed.

Nusrat Nowshin, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate (Publication and Printing) of Dhaka District Administration, confirmed the development.

Previously, the government had cancelled the newspaper’s declaration following allegations of regulatory violations during its publication. After reviewing Rehman’s application, the government discovered discrepancies related to false information provided by the printing press. Consequently, the declaration and registration were revoked under Section 10 of the Printing Presses and Publications (Declaration and Registration) Act of 1973.

The decision to reinstate the declaration reflects a significant moment for journalistic freedom and may invite further discussions on the role of government in media operations.
