Historically, in the Indian subcontinent, bangles are not just an ornament but a prominent symbol of fashion, beauty, aesthetics, trends, serendipity, and the region’s rich cultural heritage.
They serve as a living bridge for stories passed down through generations. Whether for brides’ makeovers, any festive occasions or daily wear, bangles are an indispensable accessory.
From the softer, rhythmic tune of glass bangles to the stunning glow of diamond, they stand as a symbol of tradition and custom for the people of this land.
The earliest known evidence of bangles dates back to the Indus Valley Civilisation, around 2600 to 1900 BCE. Perhaps the most captivating window into this ancient world is ‘Mohenjo-daro’s’ iconic ‘Dancing Girl’, crafted almost 4500 years ago; the tiny bronze figure poses with effortless confidence, her entire left arm draped in a full stack of delicate bangles. Proof that styling a wrist full of bangles is an obsession of thousands of years in the making.
Based on materials and design, bangles are primarily classified into seven types, one of which is the glass bangle.
