JU Prof Nahreen becomes country’s first woman chief information commissioner

The government on Saturday appointed Jahangirnagar University (JU) Professor Nahreen Islam Khan as the country’s first woman chief information commissioner (CIC).

She is a faculty member of the Department of Geography and Environment at JU, and would join her new office immediately, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

According to a separate notification from the ministry, two journalists – SAM Mahfuzur Rahman and Khan Mohammad Abul Hossain – have been appointed information commissioners.

The rank, salaries, gratuity and other benefits of the new appointees will be decided by the government, read the two notifications.
