Bangladesh, India seek to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation

Bangladesh and India have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and working together on shared security interests during a meeting held today.
The meeting was held between Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi at the Defence Adviser’s office at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment on Wednesday (9 September).
At the outset, the defence adviser and the Indian high commissioner exchanged greetings.
They then held discussions on a range of issues, including joint training programmes to enhance the professional standards of the armed forces, exchanges of experience and training between military officers, disaster management, regional peace and maritime security.
During the meeting, the Indian high commissioner highly lauded the government’s initiatives in the socio-economic sector.
He said India attaches great importance to its deep military and strategic ties with Bangladesh.
He also reaffirmed India’s continued commitment to working with Bangladesh’s armed forces to strengthen professional cooperation and capabilities, as well as in areas of shared security interests.
The two sides expressed their determination to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation between Bangladesh and India, contribute to regional stability and work together to address common global challenges.
