NCP Chairman and lawmaker Hasnat Abdullah has accused State Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Humayun Kabir of dodging a question with regard to renunciation of his British citizenship.
In an open letter on Facebook posted late Monday evening, Hasnat opined that the answer should be straightforward either yes or no and if Kabir had indeed renounced his citizenship he should show the proof.
The lawmaker found Kabir’s behavior while answering questions from journalists unprofessional, sarcastic and aggressive and suggested that this sort of attitude can have an adverse effect on press freedom and lead to self-censorship.
According to Hasnat Kabir cannot become a minister while being a citizen of any other country, which he did by virtue of the provisions of constitution and law.
“We are not asking him for life imprisonment or death penalty. All we are asking is whether he has renounced his British citizenship or not and if he has, what proof do you have?
Say yes or no,” Hasnat said.
